Olympic silver medallist Ferner dies
OSLO: Norway’s royal household says the king’s brother-in-law Johan Martin Ferner, who was part of the sailing team that won silver at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, has died. He was 87.
In a statement, King Harald V announced “with great sadness” that Ferner died on Saturday. The statement did not give a cause of death.
Ferner was a commoner who married Harald’s sister Princess Astrid in 1961. They had five children.
He was part of a five-man team that grabbed silver in the 6-metre class that was part of the Olympic sailing programme from 1908-1952.
