Gas pipeline blown up in Balochistan's Jaffarabad district

QUETTA: Miscreants on Saturday blew up an 18-inch gas pipeline in Balochistan's Jaffarabad district, however, no casualties were reported.

Police sources told Dawn that militants planted explosive material close to the gas pipeline in Dera Allah Yar which went off with a loud bang.

The pipeline was serving as an alternate gas supply route for Quetta and other parts of the northern and central Balochistan.

Police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the incident.

Fire fighters and gas company staff were also called in to fix the damage.

There was no claim of responsibility, but police suspect that Baloch separatist groups could be behind the attack.

This incident comes a day after miscreants blew up two gas piplelines in Balochistan's Naseerabad and Sohbat Pur districts.

Sabotage of gas pipelines is a characteristic tactic of tribal militants which is frequently witnessed in Balochistan. However, the province also suffers from attacks carried out by Taliban militants.
