Centre directs Balochistan to improve governance

ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of the poor performance of the Balochistan government, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday directed the provincial government to ensure good governance.

The PM issued the directives while chairing a meeting on Balochistan's situation at the Prime Minister's House in the federal capital before leaving for Saudi Arabia to attend the funeral of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.

The premier said the government is providing increased funds for the development of the province with particular focus on infrastructure development.

He said Balochistan is an important part of the country and the federal and provincial governments should work in coordination for optimum utilisation of the mineral resources of the province.

PM Nawaz said the development of the Gwadar Port and construction of Pak-China Economic Corridor would bring a wave of prosperity to the people of Balochistan.

The meeting was attended by Leader of House in the Senate Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, Minister for State and Frontier Regions Lt. Gen (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo, Senator Sardar Yaqoob Nasir, MNA Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Balochistan Minister for Mines and Minerals, Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, Mr Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Political Secretary to PM Dr Asif Kirmani.
