AJK govt approves National Action Plan

MUZAFFARABAD: Like the rest of Pakistan, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Tuesday approved enforcement of the ‘National Action Plan’ (NAP) against terrorism in the region.

A high level meeting held at the PM Secretariat, with AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed in the chair, also decided to do the needful legislation to meet the objectives of the plan.

Participants of the meeting included the chief secretary and other secretaries to the AJK government as well as senior officials of the AJK police, army and intelligence agencies.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Murree based 12-Div was among the attendees.

The meeting constituted a state level committee headed by the AJK premier and divisional level committees headed by the respective divisional commissioners to ensure implementation of NAP in the AJK territory.

The committees will include both the civilian and military officials.

A joint operational cell was also constituted with chief secretary as its head.

The meeting also decided eviction of Afghan refugees from AJK, adding requisite legal measures would be taken in this regard.

According to an official handout, in his address on the occasion, the prime minister maintained that the terrorism had turned out to be the most perilous problem faced by the country, but the good omen was that the whole nation had united to thwart it with full force.

Terming the Peshawar massacre as the worst crime against the humanity, he said it had rendered uncompromising steps for obliteration of terrorists and terrorism indispensable.

The political leadership deserved accolades for showing consensus and harmony, he said.
