Police told to locate ‘missing’ MUET student by Feb 10

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justices Hassan Azhar Rizvi and Salahuddin Panhwar on Tuesday gave the Jamshoro SSP 20 days to locate a a third year student of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology allegedly picked up by the Jamshoro police in November last year.

Jamshoro SSP Naeem Ahmed Shaikh appeared before the bench and submitted his report saying that the police were unable to locate him. He said no record of Mr Kumar’s detention was found.

The SSP, however, sought time to locate and produce him in court. The bench asked the police officer to locate Mr Kumar and produce him in court on Feb 10.

Raja Dayam, the maternal uncle of the student, Kamlesh Kumar, had filed a constitutional petition stating that the Jamshoro police had picked up his nephew from the Sindh University Housing Society.

He stated that he had seen his nephew at the Jamshoro police station but was not allowed to speak to him despite repeated requests, and was told that the detained student would be released soon. Since then, he added, the police had been denying having picked him up.

The petitioner is represented by Advocate Heymendas in court.
