ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman, Maroof Afzal, on Monday directed the Environment Wing of the CDA to launch a campaign against wastage of water and littering.

He was chairing a meeting at the CDA headquarters to review the steps taken by the authority to control wastage of water and littering.

The meeting was attended by Member Environment Syed Mustafain Kazmi, director general civic management and officers of the relevant formations of the authority.

The CDA Chairman said water was a precious gift and basic need of life and its unnecessary use and wastage was rejection of blessing.

He said that water flowing in the streets not only causes environmental pollution but also damages the roads which ultimately affects the natural beauty of Islamabad.

Member Environment apprised the CDA Chairman that Environment Wing has constituted special teams, which are issuing notices to the people involved in wastage of water and throwing garbage in streets and on roads.

He said the violators were being served notices by the teams of Sanitation Directorate under the municipal bylaws-1969 to discourage the practice.

In this regard, teams of Sanitation Directorate have issued notices to 300 people in different sectors of the city for wasting water.

Member environment said 75 cases had been sent to the CDA magistrate so that fined could be imposed and other necessary action could be initiated against the violators.

The teams are working in shifts to check wastage of water, he further informed.

The CDA chairman said that Islamabad was blessed with natural beauty and landscape, however, flow of water and garbage tarnish its beauty.

He appealed to the residents of the Federal Capital to comply with the CDA Municipal Bylaws and do not waste drinking water.

He further requested the residents to use water bucket while washing their cars.

He further appealed to the residents to avoid wasting water as it was not only our moral duty but a religious obligation as well.
