Call to monitor NGOs’ activities

LAKKI MARWAT: Office-bearers of the IDPs Falahi committee have demanded of the government to set up a monitoring cell to keep check on the activities of

non-government organisations working for betterment of internally displaced tribesmen of North Waziristan Agency in the district.

Talking to reporters in Naurang town here on Wednesday, they alleged that some non-government organisations were involved in unjust distribution of aid meant for the displaced families. They alleged that activists of several NGOs distributed assistance to their near and dear ones ignoring the affected tribal people.

“Liking and disliking should have no place in the process of aid distribution,” said Abdul Haq, a displaced tribesman.

Mr Shakir, another displaced person from North Waziristan, said that the government should monitor the activities of NGOs involved in distribution of aid among the internally displaced tribesmen of North Waziristan Agency. He alleged that these NGOs had neglected the deserving people in the distribution of aid.

The displaced people also asked for provision of tents and non-food items and fodder for cattle. They also demanded repatriation of the displaced tribesmen to their hometowns as soon as possible.
