Mauripur club wins as U-12 football kicks off

KARACHI: Mauripur football team beat Lyari outfit 5-4 on penalty shootouts in the inaugural match of the Shohuda Army Public School Peshawar U-12 Football Championship which commenced here at Kakri Ground Lyari amid fanfare on Saturday.

The match was tied 0-0 in the regular time after which the penalty kicks were taken in which Mauripur emerged the winner.

Mohammad Waaris, Imran Ali, Mazroob Ahmed and Abdul Majeed scored for the winners while Shams, Wajahat Ali, Danish and Kashif scored for the losing side.

As many as sixteen teams of the city are competing in the event which is organised by DMC South to pay tribute to the martyred children of Peshawar’s Army Public School.

Earlier, chief guest Lt Col Sohail Ahmed, Commander Abdullah Shah Ghazi Rangers Lyari, inaugurated the event and said brave nations like that of Pakistan do not get deterred by cowardly acts and it is the govt’s endeavour to provide terrorism free society to the youngsters of this nation who can freely compete in healthy activities.

He paid rich tributes to DMC South Administrator Afzal Zaidi and his team for taking this great initiative to organise a football event for the under-12 boys as a tribute to the late children of Peshawar.

Afzal Zaidi said his mission and that of his team is to promote peace through sports and they will continue to hold regular events to fulfill their aim.

Municipal Commissioner Mohammad Raeesi, Director Sports Asif Azeem, Karachi Football Association’s Raheem Baksh, chief coach Karachi United Arshad Jamal besides hundreds of football fans attended the inaugural match and the ceremony.
