Third seed Wakeel crashes out as line-up for pre-quarters finalised

KARACHI: Khyber Pakhtun­khwa’s top junior cueist Ahsan Wakeel become the third casualty among seeded players as line up for the knockout pre quarter-finals was drawn in the seventh national junior under-21 snooker championship at Movenpick Arcade on Wednesday.

Third seed Wakeel, who lost his opening group C match on Monday, suffered a straight loss at the hands of Punjab’s Mohammad Afzaal to make exit. The latter was home 59-17, 91-0, 82-15. He also hammered an efficient break of 91 in the second frame.

It is pertinent to mention that Balochistan No 1 Taimoor Aftab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s No 2 Mohammad Kashif, the fifth and sixth seed respectively, bowed out of the contest on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, five other seeded players — top seed Abdul Raheem, second seed Ali Zaman Khan, the Punjab and Sindh junior champions respectively, Islamabad champion and fourth seed Nouman Iqbal, seventh seed Mohammad Faheem and eighth seed Fahad Khan — sneaked into the last 16-round.

The best of seven frames pre quarter-finals starts on Thursday. Four matches will be played in the first session at 10am followed by another four in the second at 1pm.
