Malik Ishaq on two-week judicial remand

MULTAN: A special court on Wednesday remanded leader of banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Malik Ishaq in judicial custody for two weeks in a murder case.

Ishaq was produced before Special Magistrate Ghulam Mujtaba Baloch in a murder and terrorism case lodged with Airport Police Station (Rahim Yar Khan).

The FIR No. 245/14 had been lodged on Oct 14, 2014 on the complaint of Husain Abbas, son of Allah Ditta, who was killed in a sectarian attack. The case was lodged under Pakistan Protection Act 2014. The court had rejected physical remand, observing that physical remand of a suspect who was booked on charges of abetment, could not be granted.

The court has granted 14-day judicial remand of the suspect and fixed Jan 7 the next date of hearing.

RELEASED: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday released two suspected facilitators of two terrorists who were killed in an encounter with law enforcement agencies in February 2014.

Judge Sajjad Ahmed ordered release of Maulana Zafar Iqbal and Qari Saeed due to lack of evidence.

Two suspected suicide bombers Sajid and Abid Ghora had been killed by intelligence agency, police and Elite Force personnel in an ‘encounter’ at Chub Kalan (Khanewal) on Feb 7 this year. Major Danish, an intelligence officer, who received critical injuries in the encounter, succumbed to his wounds in a Lahore hospital.
