Jeweller gets extortion call

GUJRAT: A Lalamusa city jeweller has received a call from an unidentified caller who threatened him to pay a Rs1 million extortion money or face death.

The Lalamusa City police registered a case against unidentified people on the report of Mirza Jameel, of neighbourhood Sabri, under sections 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code and 25-D of the Telegraph Act. Police deployed two constables with the businessman for his security.

Also, gunmen took away Rs1.4 million from the convenience store of Hafeez Ahmed along Sargodha Road, in the jurisdiction of Civil Lines police.

The traders of the area lodged a strong protest and demanded the recovery of the cash, arrest of the thieves and foolproof security for the area.

City Deputy Superintendent of Police Ghulam Mustafa Gilani assured the traders of police efforts to arrest the thieves.

SACKED: Gujrat Tehsil Municipal Administrator Farooq Rasheed dismissed from service five officials of water pumping machines and disposal station of the city for their absence from the place of duty, according to a handout by the local information office.

The administrator paid a surprise visit to the sewerage disposal station near Boly and the water pumping machines of Gharibpura, Children’s Park, Hassan Chowk and Fawara Chowk and found officials absent.
