Condemned prisoner dies of heart attack
MIANWALI: A condemned prisoner at Mianwali Central Jail died of heart failure on Monday.
Muhammad Liaquat, 55, of Bhakkar was sentenced to death by the district and sessions judge in 2010 for murdering his wife Bashiran Bibi, a mother of nine, on suspicion. His revision plea was lying with the apex court. According to doctors, Liaquat died of a heart attack.
The body was handed over to brother of the deceased.
COPS BOOKED: An assistant sub-inspector and two constables were booked on Monday on charges of extortion at Fakharabad checkpoint on Mianwali-Talagang Road.
Police said District Police Officer Mujahid Akbar Khan received complaints that a team posted at the checkpoint are allowing vehicles to enter the district after charging money as ‘special toll’.
The DPO deputed Chakrala SHO Shahid Nasir to probe the matter. The report found policemen guilty of extortion.
Police arrested head-constables Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Riaz while ASI Alam Khan managed his escape.
A case under Section 155, 420 PPC has been registered against the suspects.
