IGP Punjab issues travel advisory

RAWALPINDI: Inspector General of Police Punjab issued a travel advisory warning motorists to be careful when driving in foggy conditions, especially in rush hours.

“In December and January cities become engulfed in fog and the visibility is poor. A large number of motorists get into accidents in these conditions.

“In order to save precious lives and to ensure smooth flow of traffic on highways, a travel advisory is being issued for motorists,” IGP Mushtaq Ahmed said in the advisory.

The IGP directed police to warn drivers against speeding and advised them to install emergency/hazard traffic lights.

Highlighting the importance of highway patrolling in dangerous driving conditions, the IGP directed police to respond quickly to all emergency calls and render help to the callers. He said the highway police should also sensitise and educate commuters about safety measures to be adopted when thick fog engulfed roads.

IGP Sukhera also directed police to increase patrolling on highways in foggy conditions to deal with criminal activities as well as with traffic-related problems.

“Highway police should ensure that traffic accidents are dealt with immediately and with swift evacuation of victims to nearby hospitals,” he said.
