LWMC launches Christmas cleanliness drive

LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has started implementing its plan to maintain cleanliness around Christian localities, missionary schools and churches across the city on the eve of Christmas.

Mechanical washing of 140 major churches in the city had already begun and would be completed before Christmas, said a spokesperson on Sunday.

Areas and roads leading to churches would be swept and washed manually and mechanically while lime would be sprinkled to make pavements look clean.

Arrangements had also been finalised to efficiently collect and transport solid waste generated during Christmas holidays.

Separate rosters of staff, waste collection and transportation vehicles had been issued to both Turkish companies Albayrak and Ozpak with strict instructions to implement the plan according to need.

The spokesperson said though all Christmas celebrations had been cancelled in the wake of the tragic incident in Peshawar, the LWMC had started transferring bonus salary of Christian employees to their accounts.
