‘TTP commander’ killed in encounter

KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh on Sunday claimed to have killed one suspected militant in an ‘encounter’ in Baldia Town.

The paramilitary force conducted an intelligence-based targeted raid in Ittehad Town, Baldia.

The raid was conducted on a tip-off that militants had hidden weapons and explosives for carrying out “some terrorist activity” in the city, said a Rangers spokesperson.

On seeing the paramilitary personnel, the suspects resorted to firing upon which the Rangers retaliated and killed a suspected militant. One Rangers soldier was also wounded, the spokesman said.

The deceased was identified as Amjad, alias Sajad Langra. He was a “commander of a target killer team and explosive experts of Tehreek Taliban (Swat group),” said the official.

“He was involved in numerous high-profile terrorist activities in Karachi,” added the officer.

A large quantity of explosive material, detonators, improvised explosive devices, grenades and other weapons were recovered, he added.

Meanwhile, the paramilitary force conducted another intelligence-based targeted raid in Baldia Town and Gulshan-i-Buner in Quaidabad and detained eight suspects allegedly belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and claimed to have seized explosives and arms from their possession.
