Doctor shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: A 50-year-old doctor was shot dead in Buffer Zone area of the city on Saturday, police said.

They said four men on two motorcycles opened fire on Dr Arif Mustafa Siddiqui in Sector 15-B of Buffer Zone when he was parking his motorcycle outside his clinic.

“The victim was also a government servant. He was employed as a medical officer at the Abbassi Shaheed Hospital,” said SP Chaudary Asad.

“It was not a mugging attempt but a deliberate murder as we believe that the attackers were chasing him and when he stopped at the clinic where he practised in the evening they fired at him,” he added.

He said it was premature to say anything about the motive behind the attack. But, he did not rule out the incident as part of the ongoing wave of targeted killings in the city on different grounds.
