Three jailed for 10 years in kidnap case

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Friday three men to 10 years in prison for kidnapping a university student for ransom.

Mohammad Moiz, Owais and Kazim were found guilty of kidnapping Ismail near a private university, where he was studying, within the jurisdiction of the Aziz Bhatti police station in November 2010 for ransom.

The judge of the ATC-II also imposed a fine of Rs205,000 each and in case of non-payment the convicts would have to undergo an additional one year in prison.

The court also handed down seven-year imprisonment to Moiz and Owais for carrying unlicensed weapons at the time of their arrest.

A case was registered under Section 365-A (kidnapping for extorting property, etc.) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 (e) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 on a complaint of the victim’s father.

Two accused were also booked under Section 13-D of the Pakistan Arms Ordinance, 1965.
