People’s Party mobilises teams to find office-bearers in KP

PESHAWAR: After getting fresh instructions of the party’s co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari, to complete the party’s cabinets for all districts at the earliest, the Pakistan People’s Party leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has mobilised its organising teams to search, select and name suitable people for different positions across the province.

Lately, Zardari had refused to accept the disgruntled activists’ demand for intra-party elections and gave the go-ahead to the party’s provincial leadership for nomination of office-bearers in districts.

Since their return from the party’s Dec 2 Lahore convention, the annoyed workers have yet to reveal future course of action in case they’re ignored in the nomination process.

As part of the party’s re-organisation, the PPP on Friday nominated Jauhar Ali Khan as its president for Buner district, Saifullah Khan senior vice president, Javed Iqbal general secretary, while Sher Ali Khan and Akbar Ali Khan were made members of the provincial council.

Also, Shamshir Ali Khan was appointed the party’s district president for Swat, Mumtaz Khan senior vice president, Shuja Khan vice president, Rohullah Amin general secretary, Attaur Rehman deputy general secretary, Dunyazeb Khan finance secretary, Mohammad Ayub coordination secretary, Bakht Sherwan press secretary and Prince Fazlur Rehman office secretary.

The party said after consultation with its provincial president, Khanzada Khan, the selection process had been finalised by a team comprising vice president Najamuddin Khan and general secretary Humayun Khan during a visit to the two districts.

Lately, Zardari had rejected angry activists’ demand for intra-party elections

“In Malakand division, the office-bearers for only two districts i.e. Lower Dir and Upper Dir have yet to be announced. The rest of cabinets have almost been completed,” said PPP leader Tariq Rahim told Dawn.

Tariq said a committee to be led by the party’s provincial president, Khanzada Khan, and consisting of Humayun Khan and Najamuddin Khan as its members would complete the organisations in Malakand division.

He said consultation to name office-bearers for the two districts was in progress and that it would be completed shortly.

The PPP leader, however, said names of office-bearers for three divisions, including Bannu, Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan, would be announced this week.

“A team comprising Khanzada Khan, Humayun Khan, Liaquat Shabab and Shah Zulqarnain will leave for southern districts today (Saturday) to nominate office-bearers,” he said.

Tariq said office-bearers of the PPP sister organisations, including women’s wing, People’s Youth Organisation, People’s Doctors Forum, minority forum and People’s Lawyers Forum, had already been named.

According to him, the office-bearers of the People’s Students Federation and People’s Labour Forum have not been announced so far as the search for suitable people is underway.

The PPP leader said students were very sensitive people and therefore, the leadership was trying to name their leaders after consultations with the relevant people.

About the disgruntled workers, he said, “the chapter stands closed as Asif Zardari has given a clear message to the provincial leadership in the recent workers’ convention in Lahore that he doesn’t want any grouping in the party.”

“The party’s co-chairman had clearly said those intending to part ways with PPP should go wherever they want to but he will not stand rifts in the party,” he said.

Tariq said PPP had deep roots in the people but the intra-party differences had adversely affected its performance during the last some years.

He, however, said after the completion of the party’s new organisations, workers would come forward to reactivate the party by engaging angry activists.
