Political parties role on missing persons’ issue questioned

QUETTA: The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, Baloch Human Rights Organisation and Balochistan chapter of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan observed the international human rights day and expressed concern over enforced disappearances of people in the province.

Holding placards and banners, supporters of the VBMP, BHRO and HRCP marched on various streets in the city before converging in front of the press club.

Addressing the demonstrators, VBMP chairman Nasrullah Bungulzai appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to implement the supreme court order on the issue of missing persons in the province.

He criticised the provincial government’s alleged silence on the issue and questioned the role of political groups that were now part of the coalition government. He said the parties ruling the province at present were vocal in raising the issue while in opposition but now they were staying quiet.

BHRO vice chairperson Garan Naz and member of HRCP Aamir Jan Jamaldani also spoke.
