KARACHI: An impressive audience gathered at the lawns of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) on Sunday evening to pay a befitting tribute to Dr S.M. Rab, who was believed to be the oldest serving physician of the country till he died three months ago at the age of 85.

The participants at the reference titled ‘The legacy remains’, many of whom were his protégés, shared their reminiscences about the legendary professional who had been revered undisputedly by the medical community.

The programme was organised by the Pakistan Medical Association at the CPSP whose founding member was Dr Rab.

Prof Tipu Sultan, a councilor of the CPSP, praised the services of late Dr Rab in his welcome address and said Dr Rab was a brilliant teacher and an excellent clinician, who had a rare ability of spot diagnosis.

Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, PMA secretary general, said Dr Rab could treat a heart patient as expertly as he could deal with the ills of someone suffering from neurological problems.

Intellectual and writer Zia Mohyeddin presented a citation, a collage of Urdu literary gems, for half an hour and singer Mohammad Ali sang the late doctor’s favourite songs.

Dr Sultan Farooqi, Dr Salman Faridi, Dr Tasneem Ahsan, Dr Seemin Jamali and Dr Rab’s family members also spoke.
