Student shot at over ‘go Nawaz go’ slogan

PESHAWAR: A student suffered bullet injuries after the slogan of ‘go Nawaz go’ caused an armed clash between two student groups outside the Government College Peshawar on Tuesday morning.

The injured student, Bilal Khan, told the police that students Tariq, Asif and Riaz armed with pistols shot and injured him.

A police official said the injured student was an activist of Muslim Students Federation, while the suspects belonged to Pakhtun Students Federation.

He said none of the suspects had been arrested by night.

The official said the students had heated exchange, which led to the armed clash.

He said the injured student was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital.

Later, the MSF workers demonstrated outside the Peshawar Press Club.

They burnt old tyres on Sher Shah Suri Road, shouted slogans against PkSF and Awami National Party and demanded early arrest of the firing suspects.

Protesters told reporters that a group of MSF workers were passing by the Government College Chowk when PkSF activists shouted ‘go Nawaz go’ slogans, which caused heated exchange and armed clash.

“Our colleagues tried to stop PkSF workers from shouting slogans against the prime minister but they didn’t stop and instead, they opened fire on them,” claimed MSF Peshawar president Musawir Shah. He said the provincial government should arrest gunmen and take strict action against them.

Musawir also demanded that gunmen be expelled from the college.

He warned if action was not taken against gunmen, his organisation would give a call for protest across the province. It’s the second incident of its kind in the city.
