Faculty shortage

CHANDKA Medical College (CMC), Larkana, has been facing a shortage of faculty as also Ghulam Mohammad Medical College(GMMC) , Sukkur. The latter also needs PMDC accreditation.

Recently faculties of various disciplines were temporarily transferred from Larkana and Nawabshah medical colleges. Five senior teachers from CMC and GMMC were sent to Khairpur to enable the latter to seek recognition from the PMDC.

As regards the teaching faculty from Karachi, Hyderabad and other parts of the country, they are always reluctant to work in Sindh’s interior. Thus if new medical colleges are opened in upper Sindh, it will ruin the future of the existing ones in Larkana and Sukkur.

Here are some tips to resolve this problem: A committee composed of vice chancellors, the Sindh health secretary and senior medical professors be formed to identify problems faced by Larkana and Sukkur colleges and sent to the Sindh government for implementation.

Second, young doctors should be encouraged and sent abroad for doing PhDs in various basic medical sciences.

Third, the faculty transferred to Khairpur should be recalled and sent back to their parent colleges.

The authorities concerned should look into the matter and save medical colleges of upper Sindh.
