Students learn about right to know information

SAHIWAL: Up to 200 students of Shaiwal institutes participated in an interactive dialogue learned on Monday about knowing, engaging and improving the government structure in district and tehsil levels by seeking information as right.

The dialogue arranged at the the Government Elementary College, Sahiwal, by Coalition on Right to Information with a civil society organisation, aimed at raising awareness about right to information among the public.

The participants learned how to seek information under the Punjab Transparency and Right to information Act of 2013.

The youth also signed a banner demanding the proactive disclosure of information to citizens from the public sector departments.

The students said even though the Punjab government had passed the law but it did not launch any campaign to tell the masses about its benefits.

They said there must be transparency and accountability of government functioning and the law would help them know government performances in responsive and legal way.

Komal, an MEd student, stressed the need for the utilisation and exercising of law by demanding more and more demands.

College Principal Mazhar said such kind of awareness session must be conducted by government functionaries.
