New UoG vice chancellor takes charge today

GUJRAT: Prof Dr Ziaul Qayyum has been made vice chancellor of the University of Gujrat.

The post fell vacant following the completion of the second term of Prof Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin on Oct 10, 2014. Senior faculty member Prof Dr Muhammad Faheem Malik had been given the acting charge of the VC office prior to the posting of the new vice chancellor.

The newly-posted VC is likely to assume charge of his office on Monday (today). Prior to the approval of his posting as the UoG VC, Dr Ziaul Qayyum was serving as the Director of the Faisalabad/Chiniot campus of the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences.

His professional experience spans more than 22 years in a diverse range of fields. The establishment of IT institutes and organisational planning and development remain the foremost highlights of his career.

Dr Zia is an experienced educationist, who earned master’s degrees in mathematics and computer science and also earned a doctorate from the University of Leeds, UK, specialising in Machine Learning/Semantic Information Retrieval.
