Boy killed in cracker attack on police van

HYDERABAD: A minor boy was killed and five other people were injured in a cracker attack on a police van here on Saturday night.

Two unidentified men on a motorcycle lobbed two crackers on the GOR police station’s van when it was passing through an area near Wahdat Colony.

The policemen escaped unhurt. However, six pedestrians, among them a child, were injured. According to DSP Canton­ment Anwar Durrani, the injured were taken to Liaquat University Hospital where doctors pronounced the child as dead. He was identified as Zaheer Ahmed.

The injured included Abdul Ghaffar, Nadeem Qureshi, Ali Akbar, Mohammad Sachal and Mohammad Sadiq.

The banned Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz had called for a strike against the custodial death of a leader of its students wing Asif Panhwar. He was picked up on Aug 15 in the Qasimabad area and his body was found near Moenjo Daro airport two days ago.

No one claimed responsibility for the cracker attack.
