RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Friday asked the National Logistic Cell (NLC) to speed up work on metro bus project.

The NLC is the contractor of two packages -- one from Committee Chowk to 6th Road and the other from I.J.Principal Road to Peshawar Mor-- of the metro bus project.

The warning was issued at meeting held at the RDA offices with Commissioner Zahid Saeed in the chair. 

Former MNA Malik Shakil Awan, MPA Raja Hanif Advocate, Brigadier Shahid from NLC and other relevant officers attended the meeting.

The PML-N local leaders came hard on the contractor for leaving construction material waste on road which hampered traffic from Marrir Chowk to Faizabad. Former MNA Malik Shakil Awan particularly referred to debris and mud at Committee Chowk, Waris Khan, Naz Cinema, Rehmanabad, 6th Road and Shamsabad.

“The contractors failed to adopt safety measures while laying girders on the pillars,” he said.

He said that the work on metro bus project created problems for the residents as the contractors failed to remove construction material waste from the roads after finishing the work.  

After this, Commissioner Zahid Saeed directed the officials concerned to immediately remove construction material waste from the construction site to avoid dust and public inconvenience.

The NLC representative gave a detailed presentation on ongoing progress on the two packages.

Commissioner Zahid Saeed directed the contractors to work day and night to complete work within stipulated time frame. He directed the contractors to remove debris from the project site.

He asked the contractors about procurement of different items including glass, marble and other material.

“The procurement process will complete as soon as possible because the finishing work on bus stands should be done by end of December,” he said.

He said bus stands should be completed as soon as possible because, the government would ply the buses by January 25.

The contractors clarified that the procurement of these items is under process.
