Merit under siege

THE Sindh government has recently passed a bill giving itself all powers, free of all checks and balances, to fill the posts of BPS-16 and BPS-17 in the provincial government and departments under its control.

This means that the Sindh Public Service Commission’s role in selection of suitable candidates has been assumed by those who are in government. This will make it almost impossible for poor educated youth to enter government service.

The Sindh government should reconsider this freshly enacted bill, otherwise the electorate will never forgive the party that is responsible for doing away with merit.
