Employment exchanges to be activated

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has directed all assistant commissioners to activate public-sector employment exchanges and make them an effective source for young people seeking employment in private sector.

The commissioner, presiding over the 19th meeting of the Placement Bureau set up at the Commissioner Office, here on Wednesday, said the bureau will be linked with the International Labour Organisation to explore employment opportunities abroad too.

Besides, the Overseas Employment Corporation will also be added into this network, he added.

Siddiqui said the Placement Bureau is working to develop skills in the unemployed young people with the cooperation of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Human Resource, Research & Development Board (BBSHRDD).

The commissioner said that the technical training is being given keeping in mind the market trends.

The meeting was informed that some 30 per cent applicants have been provided with jobs. Another 4,000 applications have also been received, and out these 446 were forwarded to various organisations on merit basis.

Secretary BBSHRDD, Kareem Bakhsh Siddiqui, Adviser FPCCI, Eng. Anwar-ul-Haq Siddiqui and Director Benazir Income Support Programme, Naveed Iram Warsi were in attendance along with other representatives.
