‘Traffic casualties thrice more than terrorism’s’

LAHORE: Number of causalities in traffic accidents was thrice more than the people being killed in terrorism incidents.

National Highways & Motorway Police Inspector General Zulfiqar Cheema said this on Tuesday, addressing a seminar on ‘Road Safety & Responsibilities of Youth’ at the Punjab University, regretting that due attention was not being paid to control traffic accidents.

He said the attitude of nations could be understood by examining their traffic systems.

He listed over speeding, rash driving, use of cell phone while driving, non-fastening of seat belt, avoiding helmet, defying lane system etc among major causes of accidents.

PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran also spoke on the occasion.

Prizes were distributed among the students who took part in a question and answer session related to traffic rules.
