Two booked for ‘pouring acid down woman’s throat’

MUZAFFARGARH: Sanawan police registered a case under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act against two suspects for allegedly pouring acid down the throat of a woman in Kot Addu tehsil.

Gulnaz got married to Faheem a few months ago. Three days ago, her in-laws were alleged to have poured acid down her throat after which she was admitted to Multan’s Nishtar Hospital in a critical condition. On Tuesday, Gulnaz’s mother Rehmat Bibi got a case registered at Sanawan Police Station against Faheem and his father Abdul Aziz.

Kot Addu Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdul Rehman Asim told this correspondent Gulnaz and Faheem had been quarrelling over domestic issues for some time. But he claimed this was not the reason behind the incident and he was looking into the matter and awaiting a medico-legal examination.

Sanawan Station House Officer Buzdar said initial investigation had revealed Gulnaz drank the liquid herself, which was not acid but furnace oil. He said she was in Nishtar Hospital and as soon as she recovered his team would investigate from her.
