COLOMBO: There is one man in Ceylon today who is not impressed by all the discussions on post-war reconstruction in different lands, because he maintains it is not what pertains purely to the earth that must be studied, but what pertains to the sun in its effect on the earth, if there is to be satisfactory rehabilitation. He is Leonard Arndt, amateur astronomer, who has been indicating the sun as “[responsible for] all our disasters” for many years now in his monthly paper, “The Star Conner”, the organ of the Star Conner’s Club. In brief, Leonard Arndt’s theory is that excessive solar radiation disturbs man’s physical balance and the balance of nature, causing epidemics and natural calamities. He claims that the effects of the weather on terrestrial conditions, noted in “The Star Conner” in the past ten years, bears out this theory.

He also claims that this is further supported by certain recent well-known astronomical publications, and medical research. He mentions particularly the Smithsonian Institute’s Report, the monthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, results of meteoro-biological research on the effects of solar radiation on the endocrine glands and medical research on what is called “replacement therapy”.
