KGS, CAS, Lyceum, Nixor in inter-school tennis finals

KARACHI: The CAS School and Karachi Grammar School sailed into the 11-15 years category semifinals while Lyceum School and Nixor College reached the 16-18 years category semis of the NBP Inter-school Tennis Tournament held at the Karachi Club tennis courts on Saturday.

The event is being sponsored by National Bank of Pakistan and organised by Nabil Hoodbhoy and Razia Babar of Perfect Strokes. The team competition is based on two singles and one doubles match.

The finals will be held next Saturday, Nov 29.

The CAS School bt Karachi Grammar School 3-0; Karachi Grammar School bt Karachi American School 3-0

16-18 years age group:

Lyceum School bt Avicenna School 3-0; Nixor College bt British Overseas School 3-0.

Afghan cyclists to feature in Lahore-Sahiwal race

LAHORE: The 11-member cycling team from Afghanistan have reached here to feature along with Pakistani cyclists in a race starting from Lahore and culminating in Sahiwal.

The cyclists will cover total distance of 235km in the race scheduled for Sunday.

Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) secretary Khawaja Idris said his federation was recognised by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) led by retired Lt. Gen Arif and hence was a legitimate body to contest elections.

He said his rival body headed by Munawar Baseer was currently affiliated with the International Cycling Federation but the Arif-led POA was trying to disassociate them and a decision in this regard would be taken by the international body in the next fortnight period.— Sports Reporter

Bronze for Pakistan in Asian Beach Games

LAHORE: Pakistan won a bronze medal in the Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand after beating Bahrain 2-1 in the third position match.

According to information released by the Pakistan Handball Federation on Saturday, the score of the final was 24-13, 12-13, 16-14 with Qatar winning the gold after beating Oman 2-0.

Karim leaves for Austria today

ISLAMABAD: Olympian Mohammad Karim will leave for Austria on Sunday to attend a training camp there organised by the International Skiing Association.

According to Obaid-ur-Rehman Abbasi, a spokesman of the Pakistan Skiing Federation, Karim will participate in the 30-day camp as part of preparations for the 2016 Olympics and other winter games in which he will be representing Pakistan.

“We are also trying to get a berth for our girl skiers,” the spokesman said.
