ASI beaten up by ‘minister’s driver’

ISLAMABAD: A man claiming to be the driver of the defence minister beat up an ASI, who was reportedly suspended on the complaint of a legislator, sources told Dawn on Friday.

However, he was reinstated after a few hours, but his place of duty was changed.

Policemen deployed at Radio Pakistan Chowk intercepted a motorcyclist when he was entering Constitution Avenue.

He was asked to furnish his identification, which annoyed him and he started abusing the personnel.

He introduced himself as the driver of the defence minister, the sources said.

The policemen let him go, but after an hour he along with over 12 persons came and went straight to the ASI Azmat Bhati and slapped him, the officials alleged.

Sources claimed that the minister approached the IG and asked him to suspend the ASI as he insulted his driver.
