Salman Butt likely to complete rehab programme

LAHORE: Tainted former player Salman Butt is likely to complete his rehabilitation programme as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar M. Khan has informed the cricketer he will receive a letter in this regard within the next couple of days.

A brief meeting between Shaharyar and Salman was held at the PCB offices here on Monday during which the player expressed his availability for the rehab programme to get himself cleared for domestic cricket in the first phase and then for international contests.

Salman’s suspension could be reduced to five years, provided he admits his role in spot-fixing scam besides completing the rehab programme. Salman admitted his role before media last year but is yet to complete the rehab programme.

There are reports that in the remaining rehab programme Salman is required to address any PCB team, during which he will express his hate against corrupt practices in the game, and will admit his fault. He will also advise the members of that team not to get involved in such practices.

After it, he may also be cleared both by the PCB and the ICC to play domestic cricket.
