JUI-F to hold grand jirga on Fata

ISLAMABAD: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) is organising a ‘grand tribal jirga’ in the Convention Centre here on Nov 22 to work out a proposal for Federally Administered Tribal Areas to be presented to the government in order to solve problems being faced by the people of Fata.

The jirga is expected to be attended by Maliks, tribal heads, elected representatives, politicians and clerics belonging to all tribal agencies.

An invitation has also been extended to the prime minister.

“There are...issues and complaints of the tribal population,” said Jan Achakzai, spokesman for JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

The primary concern is the suffering of people displaced from North Waziristan because of Operation Zarb-i-Azb, he said, adding that “there should be a responsible approach by both federal and provincial governments to redress the complaints of internally displaced persons”.

He said tribal elders attending the jirga would like to know the outcome of resolutions adopted and promises made in the past by authorities on the issues of Fata.
