KOHAT: The Road Transport Authority, Kohat division, on Monday revised fares for both the petrol and CNG run public transport in the region.

The RTA secretary Qaisar Naz took the decision after a meeting with the office-bearers of local transporters bodies.

The transporters also raised the demand for a cut in toll tax and bus stand rents following reduction in the prices of petroleum products.

The meeting fixed Rs1.16 per kilometer fare for the vehicles running on petrol and Rs0.85 for those running on CNG.

It also revised fares for intra-district vehicles. The vehicles running on petrol would charge Rs143 on Kohat-Bannu route, Rs85 on Kohat-Karak route, Rs76 on Kohat-Peshawar route, and Rs 55 on Kohat-Hangu route, respectively.

Those running on CNG were to charge Rs103 on Kohat-Bannu route, Rs60 on Kohat-Karak route, Rs55 on Kohat-Peshawar route, Rs84 on Kohat-Thall route and Rs40 on Kohat-Hangu route, respectively.

However, the transporters demanded that if the government really wanted to pass on the impact of POL prices cut to the people, it should cut prices of engine oil, vehicle accessories, toll tax and bus stand rent.

The RTA secretary promised that he would discuss their demands with the provincial director, RTA, Manzoor Ahmed.

However, he warned that legal action would be taken against the transporters if they didn’t charge the new fare from the passengers.

SHOT DEAD: One person was killed and two others were injured in a firing incident over construction of a wall on a disputed land at Guluno Market on Hangu road on Monday.

One Tariq reported to the city police that he along with Nasim Waheed and Raheel were constructing boundary wall at their land when accused Javed, Shahid and Niaz Mohammad came there and opened fire at them, killing Nasim on the spot and injuring him (Tariq) and Raheel.

The injured were taken to the KDA divisional headquarters hospital.

The body of Nasim was handed over to relatives after port-mortem.

Police registered case against the suspected killers, who escaped the area, and launched further investigations.
