Seven arrested, contraband seized in Khyber

LANDI KOTAL: The Khasadar personnel on Wednesday recovered a good quantity of contraband from two vehicles and arrested seven persons in separate actions here.

Assistant political agent Tayyab Abdullah said that 21 kilogram heroin was recovered from hidden cavities of a car during checking at Machni checkpost. He said that the khasadar force had received a tip-off about smuggling of contraband from Torkhum to Peshawar.

He said the khasadars also arrested five drug smugglers and impounded the vehicle.

In Jamrud, the khasadars recovered 25 kilograms of charas from a pickup and arrested two men. Officials said that the seizure was made after the security personnel intercepted the vehicle after it hit two pedestrians near TD bazaar.

Meanwhile, security forces on Wednesday demolished at least three houses of suspected militants in Dro Adda locality of Akkakhel during the ongoing operation in Bara, said officials, adding that unidentified gunmen had ambushed a security convoy in the same locality two days back.

Meanwhile, an empty house and a poultry farm were destroyed when stray mortar shells fell on the buildings on Wednesday.

Sources said the house of Zar Mat Khan in Sipah area was destroyed, adding that the family had abandoned it a few days back owing to the start of military operation.

The mortar shells also flattened a private poultry farm in Dron Adda area of Akkakhel, killing over 1,200 chickens.
