Two arrested as police solve elderly couple’s murder

ISLAMABAD: The capital police have solved an elderly couple’s murder case and arrested two persons, including the house servant, for their involvement in the killing, police said.

The couple was found dead in their house at E-11 early this week.

Three persons were involved in the murder who after committing the crime escaped taking away the couple’s car and a pet dog.

Their servant was arrested from Peshawar, and one of his accomplices from Rawalpindi, the police said, adding that they would be brought to Islamabad for interrogation to know the whereabouts of third member of the gang.

The police also traced the vehicle of the couple in Abbottabad, where it was sold for Rs25,000, they said, adding the vehicle would be brought to capital after fulfilling legal formalities.

The police claim that the couple was murdered for Rs25,000 only, which they direly needed.

However, the claim was contradicted by some senior officers. They said after killing the couple, the accused could have taken away thousands of rupees which were lying there.

Besides cash, gold ornaments and other valuables were also available there.

But they were found intact in the house, which suggested that the motive behind the murder was not the money, robbery or old enmity.

A police officer said the servant was traced through his cell number.

Earlier, the police suspected that the couple was murdered over honour as they tied the knot against the will of family members, in a court in 2011.
