PTI seeks details of polls results on ECP website

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) on Friday petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to direct the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to put a form containing details of election results of the Natinal Assemblies and provincial assemblies on its official website.

The petitioner, the PTI’s office bearer Saifullah Khan Niazi, through advocate Shoaib Shaheen contended in the petition that his party has pointed out several discrepancies and irregularities in 2013 Elections.

In this regard, the PTI has already registered its protest throughout the country.

The petition said that being aggrieved, the PTI served a legal notice on the ECP seeking publication of the Form XIV on its official website regarding the General Elections of 2013 for all constituencies of National and Provincial Assemblies.

However, the ECP has neither responded to the petitioner nor has the Forms XIV been published/placed on the official website of the ECP, which is a violation of “right to information”, as guaranteed under Article 19-A of the constitution.

The petitioner said that the denial to publish/place the Form XIV on the official website of the ECP was unconstitutional and against the fundamental rights guaranteed under the constitution.

“It is an established law that the state authorities are bound to ensure that there is no breach or violation of the fundamental rights of the citizens of Pakistan,” the petitioner said. It said since the matter is of public importance, therefore, the court has jurisdiction to adjudicate upon the matter.
