BBH seeks Rs50m to refurbish OPD, ICU

RAWALPINDI: Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) has sought Rs50 million from the Punjab government to refurbish outpatient department, intensive care unit (ICU) and high dependency unit in the hospital.

A senior official of the BBH told Dawn that the hospital required 12 ventilators, mobile X-ray machine and other necessary equipment for HDU and ICU.

He said long overdue reconstruction of old portions of main building and washrooms was being carried out.

He said hospital’s emergency department and building was being reconstructed.

“After the completion of construction work, the administration wants to renovate old building of the outpatient department,” he said.

When contacted, BBH Medical Superintendent Dr Asif Qadir Mir said that the demand for release of the funds had been sent to Lahore for the approval.

The superintendent said there was a dire need to provide healthy environment to the patients. He said BBH was facing shortage of space to accommodate more than 1,400 patients daily at emergency department so it started expansion of emergency department building.
