Open manhole claims life of infant

SHEIKHUPURA: A two-year-old child was killed after falling in an open manhole in Ashfaq Colony in Muridke on Thursday.

Reports said that Ihsan, son of labourer Pervez, was playing in front of his house when he fell in the manhole. The rescuers could not recover the body despite making hectic efforts.

Parents and the area people protested against the negligence of the municipal authority for not covering manholes.

LAID TO REST: An army hawaldar, who had embraced martyrdom in fight against militants in South Waziristan, was laid to rest in the graveyard of his native village Mission Color on Thursday.

A large number of people attended the funeral prayers of hawaldar Akram.

SIKH PILGRIMS: At least 260 Sikh pilgrims belonging to the UK led by Sardar Uttar Singh and Sardar Foja Singh reached Nankana on Thursday to participate in the 544 birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak starting from Nov 4.
