‘Petty clash’ mars PTI meeting

GUJRANWALA: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf district president Rana Naeemur Rehman and candidate for provincial assembly seat Aqeel Dar (backed by Ali Ashraf Mughal group) exchanged harsh words at a meeting meant to discuss the party strategy for Nov 19 public meeting.

PTI provincial president Ijaz Chaudhry presided over Thursday’s meeting in which Dar alleged the district president was “lobbying” for his own candidates and had opposed his candidature for party ticket on provincial assembly seat during the last general elections.

Naeem argued with Dar and said some local leaders were supporting him (his rival group). Ijaz Chaudhry mediated and urged the two party men to bury the hatchet in the interest of the party.

He constituted a 10-member committee, five members from each group, to make arrangements for the public meeting in the city.

Sources said PTI chief Imran Khan would intervene well in time to solve the issue.

FIRING: Panic gripped College Road area when two motorcyclists opened fire outside Imambargah Gulistan-i-Muarfat on Thursday.

Rescue 1122 vehicles, ambulances, civil defence and senior police officers reached there and cordoned off the area.

Later, City Police Officer Waqas Nazir said it was false alarm as part of the strategy to check the state of preparedness. He appreciated the law-enforcement agencies for quick response.

ARREST: A Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team on Thursday arrested a Wapda line superintendent in a corruption case.

FIA Deputy Director Malik Sikandar said Abdul Majid, line superintendent of Zafarwal (Narowal) sub-division, got Rs12,000 from Abdul Ghafoor for installation of his meter.

A raiding party led by SHO Shahid Pervez arrested him and registered a case.
