Indirect taxes

THE price of electricity is again going to be enhanced. It is for the umpteenth time that a raise is on the cards. The supply is short as usual, meters are on the fast forward mode, bills are unreasonably inflated and the common man is finding it difficult to survive. Indirect taxes are taking their toll, forcing people to migrate to other countries or commit suicide.

This reminds me of the golden words of the late US president Ronald Reagan: “Government is like a baby: an alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.” A point to ponder.
