Two killed in ‘encounter’

GUJRANWALA: Police killed two robbery suspects in a reported encounter late on Tuesday on Lumbanwali Road.

A police contingent was deployed outside the District Headquarters Hospital on Wednesday to avert any untoward situation as the autopsies of Ramzan and Talha were carried out.

Police claimed Ramzan and Talha were going on a motorcycle late on Tuesday in the Cantonment area. They opened fire on police at a picket and took cover in a field. In retaliation, they both were killed while their third accomplice escaped.

Muhammad Bashir and Muhammad Afzal told reporters outside the hospital their sons were arrested by the Cantonment police with two others Zahid and Farhan 28 days ago in a dacoity case.

Police released Zahid and Farhan after receiving a Rs70,000 graft, and killed Ramzan and Talha in a fake encounter.

Police denied the charges and claimed both deceased were involved in dacoities, robberies and other heinous crimes.

After autopsy, the heirs took bodies to their native villages.
