PPP gets ready for by-polls

PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party will call a meeting of the aspirants for contesting the possible by-elections on the seats falling vacant if the resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf members of the National Assembly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were accepted.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s senior leaders chaired by provincial president Khan Zada Khan here on Wednesday.

The meeting nominated PPP’s parliamentary leader in the KP Assembly as candidate for the election of provincial assembly’s deputy speaker, and decided to contact different parties for extending support to him.

The meeting discussed different issues, including the party’s reorganisation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, next elections of Pakistan Bar Council, and possible by-elections in case the resignations of PTI lawmakers were accepted.

It was decided that besides the previous candidates some other aspirants would also be contacted for interview so that they could be allotted tickets for the possible by-polls.

The participants condemned Muttahida Qaumi Movement for what they said launching a propaganda campaign against PPP leadership, and warned MQM to stop it or PPP would answer in the same coin.

PPP’s provincial general secretary Mohammad Humayun Khan, information secretary Liaquat Shabab, former provincial president Rahim Dad Khan, People’s Lawyers Forum provincial president Mohammad Akbar Kahn Mohmand, women wing president MPA Nighat Orakzai and general secretary Shazia Tahmas were also in attendance.
