Man killed; bomb defused in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A young man was killed and three others were injured in two different incidents here on Wednesday.

The first incident took place at Hazarkhwani area when two groups opened fire on each other on Wednesday evening. According to Rescue 1122 spokesman, two people with serious wounds were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where one Asghar Khan was pronounced dead, while one person identified as Arifullah was under treatment.

When contacted, an official of Yakatook police station said that they were yet to get details of the incident.

In another incident, two people, including a woman, sustained burn wounds when a blast took place on the second floor of a residential building Al-Syed Plaza on University Road. According to police, gas leak caused the blast.

An official of Town police station identified the wounded persons as Moeza (58) and her son Imran (35) from Afghanistan. He said that they had just arrived from their country and as they turned on the geyser a big blast took place.

He said that the blast caused damage to the building, household items and smashed the windowpanes of several nearby shops.

BOMB DEFUSED: A powerful bomb was defused on the premises of Gul Haji Plaza, a commercial centre on the University Road, here on Wednesday. An official of Tehkal police station said that the bomb was packed in a computer monitor.

“We got a wireless call and reached the spot to check a suspected car, but in the meantime we found a suspected computer monitor,” said AIG Shafqat Malik, head of the bomb disposal unit. He said that 10 kilogrammes of explosives had been packed in the monitor, which could have cause big destruction in the multi-storey plaza. He said that the BDU personnel successfully defused the improvised explosive device.
