TIMERGARA: The students of Government Postgraduate College, Timergara, on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against the closure of their college and hostel.

The college administration had closed it on Saturday after two student organisations clashed over the issue of wall chalking inside the college.

Hundreds of students marched towards Shaheed Chowk and blocked the road for traffic. Chanting slogans against the law enforcers, the protesting students said that police had failed to control the situation in the college.

The traffic remained suspended for two hours and people had to face problems due to the blockade.

The protesters also hurled stones at vehicles and hit two cars with batons, smashing their window panes while one driver was injured.

Later, the district administration controlled the situation with the help of the army officials.

Assistant commissioner, Timergara, Mohammad Ayaz and additional assistant commissioner Shah Jamil reached the spot, held negotiations with the students’ leaders and convinced them on calling off their protest.

They also announced opening of the college and hostel.

DC VISIT: Lower Dir deputy commissioner Mohammad Suhail visited tehsil headquarters hospital, Chakdara, on Tuesday and ordered suspension of five doctors who were absent from their duty.

Accompanied by Merlin district coordinator Irshad Rughani and assistant commissioner, Adenzai, Zahid Pervez, the DC inspected different units of the hospital and directed the management to make the labour room and surgical ward functional.

The suspended officers include lady doctor Hashmat Ara, Dr Ainullah, Dr Hayat Mohammad, Dr Shahid Farooq and Dr Suhail.

The DC also chaired a meeting and directed the local administration of Adenzai to remove all roadside encroachments and ensure cleanliness at the official slaughterhouse.

Later, talking to mediapersons at Chakdara Press Club, Mr Suhail said that no dengue case had been reported in Lower Dir this year.

Meanwhile, Malik Mohammad Zeb, brother of PML-N provincial senior vice-president Malik Jehan Zeb, announced to quit the party during a meeting held at Khall on Tuesday.

He said that he would soon announce his future line of action after consultation with his supporters.
