Three confiscated cranes die

KARACHI: Three cranes confiscated a day earlier near the Hyderabad toll plaza died on Tuesday in the Sindh wildlife department office in Hyderabad, where they were kept along with 75 other birds of the same species, officials said.

Seventy-eight cranes had been seized during a raid on a passenger bus near the toll plaza.

“The mortalities have occurred due to translocation. Animals suffer a shock when they are forced to leave their natural habitat and live in a hostile environment,” said Sindh wildlife conservator Javed Ahmed Mahar.
