Civilians to be hired as police station assistants

LAHORE: As many as 100 civilian police station assistants will be recruited for 10 stations of the capital city police as part of a a pilot project to computerise records and help public lodge complaints quickly.

This was decided by Inspector General Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera who presided over a high-level meeting at the Central Police Office, according to a handout issued here on Sunday.

It was decided in the meeting that the project would be extended to other police stations of the district subject to its success. Under this project, 20 male senior station assistant and 60 male and 20 female police station assistants would be appointed on contract.

The meeting also decided that required finances for the project would be managed from the existing police department budget. Vacancies would be advertised in national dailies and the pilot project was expected to be operational from January 2015.
