Qasim, Murtaza help KRL overcome Afghan FC

KARACHI: Three-time defending champions Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) extended their winning start to the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) season with a 2-0 win over Afghan FC on Sunday.

After failing to break down their opponents in the first-half at the Jinnah Football Stadium in Islamabad, veteran midfielder Mohammed Qasim drilled home in the 59th minute to give KRL the lead.

It was a second straight draw for the league leaders following their 1-1 stalemate with Pakistan Railways in Lahore on Friday.

The draw continued a troubled start for Wapda, who finished third last season, as they have three points after four matches.

Muslim FC sit fourth with nine points after six games following their second straight defeat.

In other action over the weekend, Pakistan Army were held to a goalless draw by Baloch FC Quetta at the Jinnah Stadium on Saturday. The draw means Army, yet to concede a goal this season, sit level with PAF with 10 points after four games.
